Museum Advisory Committee of Students

MACS logoIf you are a student at the University of Missouri-Columbia, you are just a few minutes from one of the most important university art museums in the Midwest. The Museum of Art and Archaeology is the third largest visual arts museum in Missouri, with the Saint Louis Art Museum and the Nelson-Atkins Art Museum in Kansas City being the two largest. The Museum of Art and Archaeology’s holdings include an extensive collection of Greek and Roman artworks and artifacts, as well as paintings, prints and drawings from the Medieval through Modern periods. It also houses an important gallery of plaster casts, exact replicas of Greek and Roman sculpture. From ancient art to modern creations, there's something for everyone at the Museum of Art and Archaeology.

Re-established in 2005, the Museum Advisory Council of Students is a volunteer organization whose aim is to foster the educational mission of the Museum of Art and Archaeology. MACS encourages applications from students who have an interest in art, a willingness to learn, a desire to serve, and time to volunteer. Students from any academic discipline can join – no previous art knowledge is required. We welcome candidates who speak other languages so that we may reach a broader community.

There are many benefits to joining MACS. You will receive enrichment in the arts, opportunities to take part in the Museum's university and community outreach programs, social events each semester, and time with others who are passionate about the arts. Participation in an extracurricular club looks great on a resumé, and best of all, MACS is a fun way to meet other students and enrich your experience at MU. The group helps implement a number of different projects at the Museum, including the popular Haunted Museum in October.

Mission Statement

The mission of MACS is to raise awareness of the art resources, exhibitions and public programs available at the Museum of Art and Archaeology to the students of MU.
