Commitment: Fatherhood in Black America![]() Carole Patterson (American) Thurmon Stubblefield with daughter Amelia 1997 black and white photo (R 97.28) "I want my children to see the real me, the person that I am and to love me for who I am." This exhibition of black-and-white photographs depicted African American fathers as supportive and nurturing parents. This powerful documentation was a story of black fathers throughout America and their commitment to their children. The words and images revealed energy, resolve, and determination. Photographer Carole Patterson conceived the project as a statement of artistic and social significance to confront stereotypic modes of perception. |
