Art About Art![]() Pablo Ruiz y Picasso (Spanish, 1881-1973) Sculpteurs, modèles et sculpture (Sculptors, models and sculpture) 1933 Etching (91.325) Gift of the MU Student Capital Improvements Committee A yearlong exhibition, installed in three four-month segments, Art About Art, presented a selection of images in which artists, artworks, and the process of making art were the subject matter. The artworks, dating from the sixteenth to the twentieth century, illustrated the multifaceted nature of the exhibit’s theme. Some works represented traditional subjects, such as portraits and self-portraits of famous painters and sculptors. Others were more fanciful, portraying caricatures of celebrated artists, or parodies of famous artworks. Several images represented imaginary scenes from the lives of artists, sometimes with historical figures anachronistically inserted into humorous modern situations. The prints, paintings, and drawings included works by Pablo Picasso, Alphonse Mucha, Andres Serrano, Faith Ringgold, and Robert Crumb. |
