The Sacred Feminine: Prehistory to Postmodernity![]() Cyclops (British, b. 1975) Hallelujah 2007 Acrylic and ink on canvas (2008.3) Gilbreath-McLorn Museum Fund This exhibition examines the role of women in religion as reflected in 6,000 years of the visual record and will thematically address various aspects of women and spirituality. The exhibition spans both both East and West, from the pagan cultures of the ancient Mediterranean through early and later Christianity, in addition to parallels in African, Asian and Pre-Columbian religions. Inspired by the exhibition, the Museum will host The Sacred Feminine: Prehistory to Postmodernity National Symposium, October 16-17, 2009. Programming related to the exhibition The Sacred Feminine: Prehistory to Postmodernity takes place throughout fall 2009. |
