The Pride of Mizzou

Circles with the letter "M” are above the tower’s archways. Surrounded by foliated decoration, the "M” represents Missouri and the University of Missouri-Columbia, more commonly known as Mizzou or MU. Founded in 1839, Mizzou was the first public university west of the Mississippi River and it is the flagship of the University of Missouri System. A small human face, perhaps an angel meant to protect those who pass through the tower’s arcade, crowns the letter.
