About Us

Mission Statement

The Missouri Folk Arts Program (MFAP) is a program of the Missouri Arts Council and is administered by the Museum of Art and Archaeology at the University of Missouri-Columbia. MFPA was established in 1984 and builds cross-cultural understanding by documenting, conserving and presenting our state's living folk arts and folklife in collaboration with Missouri's citizens.

Objectives

  • Identify and document Missouri's living traditional/folk arts and artists, available in an accessible database
  • Build appreciation for the state's artistic heritage through public programs, publications, exhibitions, surveys, and special projects
  • Make the state's rich folk heritage more acessible to Missourians

Staff

Lisa and Debbie

Lisa L. Higgins
, Director, oversees all projects/initiatives, budgets, fundraising and staff/interns. She is the Program Specialist for the Missouri Arts Council’s Folk Arts grants.

Deborah A. Bailey, Folk Arts Specialist, coordinates public programs, like the Traditional Arts Apprenticeship Program, and provides assistance for artists, festivals and organizations.
