Family Programs
All events are free and open to the public, and are appropriate for children in grades K-8 and their families. All events start in the Cast Gallery, unless otherwise stated.

APRIL 2017

Saturday, April 15; drop-in sessions from 1-3pm (Grades K-8)                  Second floor lobby outside the Museum (Limit two children per accompanying adult)

Material Matters: We'll investigate why artists choose specific materials to create their artworks, and what kinds of meanings the materials have. Then we'll collect some materials of our own to incorporate into a meaningful project.

MAY 2017

Weaving Community: We'll find examples of artistic learning communities and relationships in the exhibition Rooted, Revived, Reinvented: Basketry in America, then explore ways that we can help build community through art.

Kids Series: World of Art Women Artists Let’s look at the artwork in the Museum made by women: some things will surprise you. Make your own artwork based on one of the styles we find.

Thursday, June 22: 2:00–4:00pm, 1st  Floor Lobby

Kids Series: World of Art Hold Everything! Learn about all the different containers that exist from antiquity to modern times. How were they made and in what different ways could their shapes have been used? How were they decorated? Then create one of your own.

Thursday, June 29: 2:00–4:00pm, 1st Floor Lobby

Kids Series: World of Art, Who Wants to Be an Archaeologist? Learn what archaeologists do and find, and then and then try excavating your own “dig” and uncovering a “treasure” to take home.

Artful Fun: Summer Camp at the Museum of Art and Archaeology 9:00am–12:00pm; all week.  Meet in the first floor lobby of Mizzou North each day.

Kids Series: World of Art Money, Money, Money We will discuss coinage and money, using ancient and modern examples. Participants will have the opportunity to learn how to identify and decipher ancient coins.

Kids Series: World of Art The Way Things Go View the art film about a kinetic sculpture. Inspired, create your own mobile with parts that move in response to other parts

Kids Series: World of Art Heroes and Gods Mythology is everywhere in the Museum. Let’s find stories in art together and create a portrait of the hero from your favorite myth.
