This exhibition is the first in the museum’s series to examine mediums from the earth used continuously since antiquity. Highlighting glass, clay, and metals, the exhibits all provide an overview of the myriad forms artisans have given to these materials, from antiquity to the present.

The first installation features both decorative and functional objects, tracing the development of glass as a medium from small objects such as beads to vessels and sculpture of great complexity. Drawn from the museum’s permanent collection, the exhibition includes work by René Lalique, Dale Chihuly, and Lino Tagliapietra, among others.
