The Museum of Art & Archaeology’s (MA&A) Art of the Book Club is reading Agatha Christie’s Death on the Nile this fall, in a nod to the MA&A’s antiquities collection and in anticipation of the museum’s reopening on MU’s campus.
Four sessions are planned in partnership with Osher Lifelong Learning Institute’s Osher@Mizzou, and will be offered in hybrid form, with in-person meetings as well as virtual options. Meetings take place at the Moss Building, 1905 Hillcrest Drive.

Come ready to visit about the feature film adaptations of Agatha Christie’s novel and their all-star casts. Discussion led by Christiane Quinn. Movies will not be viewed at the session due to their length.
Tuesday, September 19, 3-4:30 p.m.
Learn about Egyptian gods and goddesses, the tombs of famous pharaohs, and the geography of the region in this presentation titled “Life and Death on the Nile” and delivered by Valerie Hammons.
Tuesday, September 26, 3-4:30 p.m.
A conversation about British writer Agatha Christie and her classic Death on the Nile, published in 1937. Barbara Montgomery will lead this session about the famed mystery novel and its author.
Tuesday, October 3, 3-4:30 p.m.
The MA&A’s Curator of Antiquities, Benton Kid, PhD, will present “Egyptomania: Facts and Fantasies of an Early 20th Century Pop Culture Phenomenon” addressing the romanticized ideas that were marketed to Agatha Christie and her contemporaries.
The Museum of Art & Archaeology’s (MA&A) Art of the Book Club started in 2015 as an effort to spark conversations about art and museums through books and film.
